Chris Doumitt & Harry DeWolf were friends for many years and ultimately became business partners to create Doumitt Cigar in 2016. After many years of smoking cigars and discussing the vision of a company with Chris’ name across everything, Doumitt Cigar was born. We are still friends and still having fun.
Harry DeWolf – Behind the Scenes
Doumitt Cigar has another cigar aficionado who brings a lot to the business. Harry DeWolf is our Daily Operations, Accounting, Legal and Order Fulfillment guy and Chris’ business partner. Harry has been smoking and learning about cigars for over 30 years. He learned and enjoyed cigars while traveling the world as a Supply Officer in US Navy for 20 years. His cigar knowledge runs deep; learning the details of tobacco selection from Michael Giannini of General Cigar and learning the entire cigar construction and rolling process from master rollers of La Gloria Cubana. Ernesto Carillo Jr. himself looked over Harry’s shoulder giving him pointers as he learned how to roll a La Gloria Charlemagne in their Miami factory after winning the first Cigar Aficionado Big Smoke “Super-Roll” competition in Las Vegas in 2003.
When we are developing and testing blends, you will not find Harry simply smoking the sticks, he is carefully taking notes and taking them apart to examine all the little details most people can’t see in a cigar. He runs various tests on how they light, smoke, draw, feel, the burn and many other trade secrets. If they don’t meet Harry’s standards they are left behind.
Holding an MBA, having experience as a Chief Financial Officer, being a college professor of accounting and entrepreneurship and a former Director of the US Small Business Administration, provides Harry the business acumen and experience to take Doumitt Cigar to the market place and expand to new factories and countries in the future.
Harry enjoys an occasional good quality slow smoking cigar. Cigars provide Harry an opportunity to slow down and relax. His favorite cigars are the La Gloria Cubano Series R #7 Maduro and the Arturo Fuente 858 Maduro and of course the Doumitt Oro Negro Maduro. A box of Arturo Fuente Curly Heads bought with his brother Leif was the very first box of cigars he purchased back in 1988. His older brother Leif is responsible for introducing him to the amazing world of cigars back in 1984. Harry’s cigar moto is simple. Life is too short for cheap cigars – Enjoy only the Best.
